In 1960’s the educational status of our taluk was pessimistic. To a large chunk of the population getting education was literally a dream. Shri Ganesh Hegde Dodmane took this as a challenge and made herculian efforts in materializing the dream of masses.
The establishment of Shikshana Prasarak Samiti, in 1952-53 was supposed to be a mother board giving rise of varieties of educational institutions comprising K.G to P.G level. Mahatma Gandhi centenary college is the brain child of dedicated and committed social thinker Shri Ganesh Hegde Dodmane. The institution saw the first ray of light in 1969, the birth centenary year of the Father of Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. The institution was first of its kind in providing higher education in the taluk. As a matter of government’s educational policy the P U section which was the integral part of M G C College got segregated and emerged as an independent P.U College in 2001 with the nomenclature “Mahatma Gandhi Centenary Pre University College” . Prof Seetamma V Bhat was the founder principal who paved a strong base.

The institution is strongly committed to provide quality education at affordable cost in arts, commerce and science streams. Education at MGC aims at holistic development of student.
The Experienced teachers who are known for their excellent pedagogy are the intellectual assets of the college, who fulfill the aspirations of the competent and competitive mind set of students. The College has the mentorship system which is a vital component in understanding the academically and personally and help them to overcome such impediments. Our college is accredited with ‘A’ grade.
The college is far away from crowded city and located amidst the lush green verdure. Own independent administrative block spacious and neatly maintained class rooms well equipped laboratories and computer lab, Huge library with rich stock of learning materials.
The institution has created vivacious learning environment. Spacious play ground tennis court open air theatre and Gym are available to the students. Hostel facility for girls is available.College organizes co-curricular activities comprising various cultural & sports events. The College is completely renovated by the present chairman Shri Vinayak Rao Hegde and Vice President Dr.Shashibhushan Hegde
